NEXT GENERATION NUCLEON DECAY AND NEUTRINO DETECTORS: NNN06

Workshop on Next Generation Nucleon Decay and Neutrino Detectors 2006 (NNN06)

Jeffrey R. Wilkes, University of Washington, Department of Physics, Seattle, WA, USA

AIP Conference Proceedings 944

Conference Location and Date: Seattle, Washington, 21-23 September 2006

Subseries: Nuclear and High Energy Physics

Published November 2007; ISBN 978-0-7354-0458-8 One Volume, Print; 170 pages; 8.5 X 11 inches, single column; Hardcover; $69.00

Readership: Experimental and theoretical physicists working on neutrino physics, or the physics of nucleon decay. Physicists and educators running or participating in physics outreach programs. Engineers working on advanced particle physics detectors. Graduate students whose thesis topics are related to conference focus.

NNN06 was the sixth in a series of workshops to discuss experiments that go beyond the reach of current projects, as well as the theoretical work that motivates and describes such advances. New detectors will explore proton decay, a process that lets us probe GUT energy scales. They will also advance our understanding of neutrino physics, including neutrino mass hierarchy, oscillation parameters, CP violation, supernova dynamics, and high energy cosmic neutrino sources. Papers in these Proceedings survey the status of results from current neutrino oscillations and nucleon decay searches, theoretical interpretations of the existing results and the goals for future nucleon decay and neutrino detector, ideas for new massive underground detectors, and very long baseline neutrino oscillation experiments, as well as physics education and outreach programs worldwide
